Today we spent time with the iPads. You were trained on how to incorporate Proloquo2go into your class. I believe this will be beneficial to all of you. I want you to take leadership on how to best use technology in class with your peer.
If you are in a class where the teacher is asking a lot of questions, ask for some of those questions ahead of time and type it into the iPad. You could also type in a couple of answers for your peer to choose from. Erica uses the iPad regularly in my classroom to show movies and pictures. These are just a few of many ways that you could use the iPad in your class.
One of your assignments this week is to come up with three creative ways to use the iPad within your class with your peer. I have given you two examples above but I would like you to go beyond those two examples. You can use them, but you must be specific on how you would use them. If you want to show a video clip, I want a detailed example of what kind of video clip you would use. Your three ideas must be in sentence form and each should be longer than just one sentence. See me if you have any other questions about this assignment.
One other thing that I want you to do before next Tuesday is to visit the
Autism Speaks Website
On this sight you will see hundreds of apps used for individuals with autism. Investigate a little and choose one that you think your peer would enjoy or could benefit from in the school or home setting. Include the name of the app that you chose in your technology assignment (this will be #4 after your three iPad ideas).
Finally, I wanted to share an inspirational video with you. Some of you might have already seen this as it is a few years old, but watch it again with new eyes. Now that you are in this class and working with your peers, I hope that you have a new appreciation for the inclusion and love that occurred here. Please post a comment on this blog and tell me if you had viewed this clip before and what you thought about it.
